The Mystery of History Volume 1: Creation to Resurrection

One of Gabi's favorite subject is World History. We used Mystery of History Volume 1: "Creation to the Resurrection" for two years and we're glad to finally finished the entire book. We love this book so much since history was explained in a biblical way. I never thought History will be this fun.

First Year

During our first year of homeschooling, I strictly followed all the activities listed in the book: Memory Cards, Lesson Activities, a little Notebooking, and the Timeline.

Here are some of the activities that we did just to give you a glimpse:

I asked Gabi the topics associated with these activities while writing this post and he remembers them! I counter-checked the book and he is right. Oh my, I almost forget. Hahaha. Well, I'm glad he still remembers after a year.

Second Year

On our second year of homeschooling (and using this book), I just want to simplify everything. Although we enjoyed doing all the activities, I find them very time consuming and sometimes redundant. In order to have an output that will help him retain the lessons, we focused on the timeline.

Since I was introduced to Charlotte Mason method of teaching (I'm not a pro when it comes to this), we ended up making our Book Of Century, this is basically a timeline in a book. The good thing about this is we can bring it anywhere unlike the wall timeline. We also did not limit it to MOH. We included other subjects like Filipino, Music, and Arts.

As we read about people and events in other subjects, we jot them down on the corresponding pages in the Book of Centuries. This is like our all in one book of history.

Gabi would sometimes write, draw or print pictures and paste it on the pages. We did not follow the directions suggested in the book to give us more freedom.

Now that we are done with Volume 1, we are very much excited with the next volume. This is one of the subjects that I love to read-aloud with my son because I am learning also. I remember how I dreaded history when I was studying, I hate memorizing dates! Hahaha. I and my son are learning together - the beauty of homeschooling. Above all, we are happy to know that Jesus is the Mystery of History.
