Chosen - A Mother's Retreat

Moms, do you ever feel like things are not going to its rightful place? Household chores become unbearable, work is demanding, the husband needs your attention, kids are not cooperative.. everyone is demanding your time and energy.

Are you overwhelmed being a Mom who wears many hats? Do you sometimes wish to disappear for a moment?

Sometimes, all we need is a break.

A car can run on fumes for only so long. It needs to be refilled or it will stop running together. You as a mother can't continue to be everything to everybody, eventually, you will break down. You need to take a break for yourself, to rejuvenate, to make sure you are not lost while trying to hold everything together. ~ journeysofawoman.com

Whether you are a stay at home Mom, or a working mom like me, whatever season you are right now in your motherhood, here's a treat for you!

When Your child Complains

Homeschooling days are not always smooth and easy, there are rough days. Well, actually many of it. No matter how prepared we are for the day, we wouldn't know how our day will turn out.

Just the other day, we were in the middle of homeschooling, when I started giving tasks to my son, he kept on complaining. Every time I asked him to do something, I would hear him grumbling.

Kathryn and Liza’s Kitchen Best friend

The kitchen used to be a scary place for young people and cooking was a daunting task reserved for mothers and household helps. But technology played a role in guiding people around the kitchen. Nowadays, new cooks search online for cooking videos or check out “food hacks” to be able to produce any dish they want that they can, in turn, show off on social media.

Real Extreme Adventure Park

We had our annual Dgroup Family Team Building at Real Extreme Adventure Park in Real Quezon last October 29 and 30. Our theme for this year is Mt. 5:14-16:

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Herbalife Nutrition At Work Survey Reveals Filipino Millennials Desire Healthy, Active Workplace Environment

While the survey conducted reveals that more Filipino millennials are engaging in regular physical activities outside work, they find it difficult to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle in the modern workplace.

PHILIPPINES, October 27, 2016 – Herbalife Nutrition, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Millennials At Work Survey1, which revealed that Filipino millennials are adapting a healthy, active lifestyle, however, most believe their current workplace environment prevents them from doing so.

Millennials, or people born in between 1980 and 2000, are opting for a workplace that will encourage them to stay active, if only this will be embedded in every company culture.  About 83 percent or eight (8) in 10 millennials have agreed that they would like their company workplace to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.

Three Years of Homeschooling by God's Grace

I remember the day when we decided to take a leap of faith to homeschool our son and pulled him out of the conventional school. We knew it will never be an easy road to take but we were all thrilled. We knew this is what God wants us to do and we believed that if He calls us to homeschool, He will bring us through it.

By God's grace, we are now on our 3rd year of homeschooling. God enabled us to go this far and I can only credit everything to Him.

Join World's Vision #HungerFree Movement

HungerFree

Food is wonderful. It engages all our senses and it brings people together. It sustains and comforts us. It’s the center of many of our celebrations.

We all love food. Unfortunately, 795 million people worldwide do not have enough to eat. In the Philippines, 1 out of 3 children under five years old are severely malnourished.

But we can change this. We believe a hungerfree world is possible – where everyone has deserves enough food for today and for tomorrow.

This October, to celebrate World Food Day on October 16, Word Vision invites us to join a movement to create a hungerfree world.

It is simple. Share a meal with someone in your community, whether at home, at a big dinner party or at a restaurant. Make that meal more meaningful by donating the cost or part of the cost of the meal to help create a hungerfree world with World Vision.

Nothing beats good food and good people having a Meaningful Meal together.

The #Hungerfree challenge

Celebrate food with World Vision! Help spread awareness and raise funds to support the health and nutrition programs in the Philippines. Will you help fight the challenging fight against hunger?  Here's how:

HungerFree
Step 1
Celebrate food, eat, and take
a photo of a meal you love.

HungerFree
Step 2
Donate the cost of
your meal to fight hunger.

HungerFree
Step 3
Instagram your #hungerfreephotos and challenge your friends
to join too!

Where your support goes
World Vision extends its help to families through one of its nutrition programs, Pinoy Nutrition Hub, where parents and health workers learn how to feed children properly and practice good hygiene.

Parents with under five malnourished children would initially visit the nutrition hubs for two weeks and to continue what they learned at home for three months. Local health centers and World Vision staff for health status will regularly check children.

"I participated in PNH, desperate to find a solution for my sons. I learned about food preparation," Marites shares. "Before, I used to give my children more rice than dishes, thinking that rice alone is enough for them to grow healthy and strong. I thought because they were eating a lot of rice, they were healthy. I was wrong."

Marites's sons Jeno, 2, and Julius, 4, had just been diagnosed as malnourished.

For 90 days, Marites religiously followed what she learned from PNH, even testing new healthy dishes. "Sometimes, when we have no money, I prepared soup made of malunggay (moringa) that I asked from our neighbor and then I mixed it with fish that my husband brought home. It's cheap but it's healthy," she said.

Soon, Jeno and Julius starting to gain weight. "I could see that my children have become a little plump. World Vision showed me an easy solution for my kids to be healthier," Marites said.

TupperwareBrands: Products for Baby, Kids, and Mommy

Tupperware was introduced in the Philippines in 1966 and has since become a household name, changing the lives of millions of Filipinos through its world-class products and the limitless income opportunities it offers. In 2007, Tupperware Philippines merged with Sara Lee Direct Selling Philippines to become what was known as Fullerlife Direct Selling Philippines. Today, we are proudly known as Tupperware Brands Philippines to reflect our strong heritage while conveying that we are a multi-brand, multi-category direct sales company.

I've known Tupperware for its colorful plastic storage that has different sizes and shapes. My Nanay had Tupperware collections when we were young. I loved the stacks container and I was always excited to see the smallest of the set.

After a couple of years, Tupperware is now offering not just the items I used to know as a child, but also products for Baby, Cosmetics, Fragrances, Personal Care and many more!

The Manila International Book Fair 2016: Our first!

I really have no plans of going to Manila International Book Fair if not for the Transformed: Mula sa Pagiging Transwoman Book Launch.

I recently bought used good books from our Sister in Christ and I'm trying to control my self from hording books.

We came there on a Saturday afternoon with my boys: hubby and the kiddos. The place was packed with shoppers. There was a long line in the entrance. Good thing we have our tickets printed so no need to line-up for it. I also have a list of books with me that I needed to buy for our homeschooling.

Our first stop was Tahanan Books. The booth was packed so it was hard to check on the items.

Novuhair Supports Alopecia Areata Awareness in Celebrating Inner Strength

September marks the month-long commemoration of Alopecia Areata awareness worldwide. Alopecia areata is a condition when hair loss occurs due to faults in the immune system attacking the hair follicles which results in partial or total loss of hair on the head and other parts of the body.

Leading this year’s celebration in the country is Alopecia The Philippines, a group founded by singer and songwriter Abby Asistio in 2012. She has been championing the cause of empowering citizens with this condition.

REVIEW: Christian Gautier Feminine Eau De Parfum for Women

Finding the right perfume is quite challenging especially with a lot of selections in the market to choose from. In the same way, it is also burdensome deciding on whether to spend greatly on designer perfume brands or opt for more budget-friendly fragrances.

As for me, I'll go for the latter. In fact, I'm not really a perfume aficionado. I'm good with baby colognes. Most of the time, I prefer a light smell which I can wear all day without getting a headache. But it's good to try something new, agree? So, I was happy enough to try this Christian Gautier Feminine Eau De Parfumfor Women sent to me by Lazada a few days ago.

Christian Gautier Feminine Eau De Parfum for Women

Shopping Made Easy with Groupon

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine.

If there's one person who introduced me to online shopping, it was my husband. You know how most men hated shopping? Well, my husband would rather go online, click and after a few days, voila! Purchase is delivered.

When I go shopping, I make sure that I wear flats and comfy clothes because I know I’ll be in battle. I’m a frugal person so I consider a lot of things before buying; the price, quality, design and the list go on.

I remember there were instances in the past where I will go and look for a pair of shoes and it will take me an exhausting four hours searching for the best one within my budget. I usually end up buying things out of frustration. If my husband is generous enough, he will give me an additional budget so the search is over.

Exploring Creation with Astronomy - Experiments and Activities

We're finally done with Exploring Creation with Astronomy. I'm glad that we decided to switch to Apologia Curriculum. This book is in a conversational style making it so appealing to Gabi. The information is quite in-depth and we love the step-by-step instructions for experiments and engaging activities at the end of each lesson.

We did read-aloud before because I want to learn together with Gabi. However, during his free time, he would sneak out and read in advance. So, I'm always left behind. On the latter part of our school year, I decided to let him read alone.

I'd like to share the activities and experiments that we made. If we only have all the resources, we could have done it all, but we just chose the most feasible. You can also check the lapbook that we made for this subject here.

A New, Safe and Effective Way to Deal with Dengue Mosquitoes

Here in the tropics, the rainy season is also the season for Dengue, a potentially deadly, yet all too common mosquito borne disease. Last year there were over 200,000 cases of Dengue fever reported in the Philippines, and almost 600 were fatalities. What is alarming is that this was way up from the 121,000 reported instances in 2014. More alarming still is that just this year, the DOH has reported 70,000 Dengue cases from January to July, the supposed lean Dengue months, this is 19% more than the same period last year. It is now more imperative than ever that measures be taken to curb Dengue, and the best way to do that is to control the numbers of Dengue Mosquitoes.
