Intramuros, The Walled City: Cut and Build

Intramuros, The Walled City: Cut and Build

We got the book by Adrian Panadero's Cut and Build Your Own Model Fort during the Tea time with Wendi from The Learning Basket. I was not Ok with it at first because I am thinking it might be just another busy work. But my son really begged for it and said he'll pay me once we got home using his savings. So, I agreed. Besides, I know it will not be a forced work for him.

Gabi loves origami and any paper folding. He previously built Jepoy Dyip Pag-asa Town, which was a request on his 9th birthday.

The book is a paper-model of Intramuros, Manila's Walled City. However, it is only confined to two important areas: Fort Santiago; and the Plaza Complex, which includes the Manila Cathedral, the Plaza itself and key government buildings.

Intramuros, The Walled City: Cut and Build

The book contains more than 90 cut-out pieces spread out over four color-coded sections. The first panel, Forts, and Walls, shows the Fort Santiago are and the walls that fortify it. The second panel, The Plaza and Cathedral, and the third panel, Government Buildings, display the Plaza Complex, the city's hub, and center. The fourth panel, Houses, and Streets, offers a glimpse into the everyday life of Intramuros residents. All assembled pieces are to be placed on the numbered Base Map (centerfold).

He finished the project while on Holiday break. Let's have a tour:

Very timely for our Manila My Manila read about Intramuros. He was building a model while learning the astonishing stories behind its walls! Now, he is requesting to visit Intramuros. :)
