Coffee Break for Homeschool Moms Hosted by Career Academy Asia

Last June 17, 2016, Educating For Life invited all Homeschooling Moms from different places for a coffee and chat. The food and venue were sponsored by Career Academy Asia at Rockwell, Makati City.

"Career Academy Asia offers Senior High School and International Degrees, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses in Arts, Designs and Specialized Management". Mr. Nonie de la Fuente, Headmaster from CAA gave us a bit of information about their offerings.

After the quick talk, each mom was given a chance to introduce herself and share anything about their seasons of homeschooling. It is amazing to know the different reasons which led each of us to this journey. Nonetheless, we all want the best for our kids and we know that homeschooling is the best for them!

Meet and greet
I attended this event along with my homeschool co-op sisters to get connected with other homeschooling moms and take a breather.

With my Sisters in Christ
Jona introduced me to homeschooling
and I am happy that she is now homeschooling her daughter

I was inspired by families who homeschooled their kids from preschool to high school and Lord willing, I would want to homeschool my kids as well until high school. I don't want to let them go early and I want to keep them as much as possible. When I told my son that when he reached college, he needs to go to a big school or a University, he protested saying he wants to homeschool. But I have to explain that college is not something Mom can teach.

After the meet and greet, we had our free coffee and snacks prepared by the Throwing-A-Party. Then on to our endless sharings and chikas. There are so much learning and encouragement from Moms who are very passionate about homeschooling.

It was very encouraging and comforting to know that we share most of the sentiments and burden as homeschoolers, that we are not alone in this road. As more families are becoming open and embrace this idea of home education, parents are becoming more intentional to their kids and becoming their primary influencers.

This was the first ever Moms' Coffee Break and I'm looking forward to the next. Many thanks to Educating for Life and Career Academy Asia for this fruitful event!

  1. I like to try homeschooling but my husband and son were against with my idea. Well, hindi naman ako ang mag-aaral so ok na sila sa traditional school.

  2. I like the advantages of homeschooling. My son goes to a traditional school, but I try my best to incorporate the homeschooling style in some areas. =) I'm interested about the Career Academy Asia. I'm browsing it now. Thank you for the info. =)

  3. I'm actually contemplating on homeschooling Maco in the future or sending her to school. Hmmm I still can't decide. Homeschooling is really cheaper compared to sending my little one to school, but I'm also thinking of Maco's social skills. Haayy and hirap mag decide hehe :)

    1. In our case it's not really cheaper because we pay our provider and books are from US.

  4. I'm so sad to have missed this! My husband went to Singapore and the kids and I had to stay in the South with my parents. I had to cancel on this event. :( I hope to be able to join the next coffee break.

  6. Wow, I really adore these homeschooling moms. I've been contemplating about homeschooling my son, my husband and I have been discussing this and even though we're unsure about it yet, I am somewhat convinced on homeschooling, I've read the advantages of it and it's really nice!

  7. I missed this event. I was really excited to go. But my mom got sick and I had no one to watch over my kids. I hope there would be another get-together for homeschool moms soon.

  8. I considered homeschooling din, but now that we're in China I decided that I preferred they learn the local language as well. But kudos to you on keeping it going! I hope there are more events like this to give homeschooling moms like yourself a chance to meet and share thoughts :)

  9. I so admire families who home school. With the time we spend on traffic these days, it seems like a good idea to do schooling at home. Our family is more on the traditional type though so I don't think this will fare well with them.

    1. Yes Mommy Cheanne, we don't have to worry about the traffic. We have all the time. :)

  10. I salute those parents who homeschool their kids. Not an easy task as I can be very impatient in teaching. That coffee break looks fun and very informative.
