Peter Tan-Chi Jr is the Keynote Speaker for this conference. He shares his knowledge on the status of the digital age today…

What technology does?

Make things better….
     Accelerate: easier, faster, now
Increases things: more, farther, higher, better
     Better tools for education
     Faster and more connections
     Improve health
Make things worst…
      Early exposure to predators, bullying
Accelerate access to pornography and sex
      Accelerate focus on oneself
      Accelerates and increase addiction

He also shares a list of Guidelines for Technology at Home….
  1. Model Discipline
  2. Train social interaction
  3. Creation > Consumption
  4. Proper Self-worth help them find good friends/mentor
  5. Internet = facts; internet <> wisdom
  6. Equip to use technology for solving problems, not just pleasure
  7. Know what is happening
  8. Take a family break from tech together
  9. Encourage activities outside of tech (sports, outdoors)
  10. Use rating systems and parental controls
  11. For older kids, challenge them to set the boundaries
What is my life purpose? What is life about?

If LIFE is about (ME), then use everything (including technology) to pursue...

POSSESSIONS
PLEASURE
POWER/PRIDE (SELF GLORY)

If LIFE = GOD, then use all the unique talents and resources (including technology) that i have to...

LOVE GOD
LOVE OTHERS

He ends his message by giving tips on how to MOTIVATE your child....

M-Model
O-Open Communication
T-Time
I-Intimacy
V-Vision
A-Affirm
T-Train
E-Entreaty

The second part of the conference is the workshop per grade level. I joined the Preschool to 3rd Grade entitled, Facing the Digital Giant with Nono Felipe.

He shares...
Not everything you read online is correct.
Not everything you read online is accurate.
Not everything you read online is true.
…….Diligence is the key.

Technology is portrayed as an enemy, but it doesn’t have to be. Technology should be an ENABLER to learning ~ Nono.

So what's my greatest take-out from this? Parents should lay down the framework of self-regulation when it comes to technology. Technology isn't bad at all, we can use it to our advantage but we need to draw where the red line is.

"Technology transforms the way students learn and communicate with the world. Kids "plug-in" to mobile phones, tablets, laptops, portable music players and computers and use the internet as their virtual platform to socialize and explore. A sub-set of students use emerging technologies to expand their learning experiences well beyond the classroom and increase their productivity in school and out."
